It´s the holiday season now, and we can see it everywhere we go. Banister lights, pine trees, poinsettias & a varied array of accessories. The Christmas Spirit is here! Don´t we feel encouraged to share it all around? Absolutley!

In Mexico we tend to carry on with this Spirit also to the people who make our lives a little better everyday -most of the times unoticeably. You guessed! I´m talking about the maid, mailman, gardener, trash collector, personal chauffer, gatekeeper and in general, all those service people who have worked directly -or indirectly- for us.
At the end of the year, workers in companies and businesses receive by law from their employers a yearly bonus called aguinaldo, which comes to the amount of 15 days pay once a person has been working for them for over a year -or the amount equivalent for less time.
People who work providing a service like the ones I mentioned before - working on a less formal employment basis - get no such compensations in most cases. Patrons are expected, although not obliged, to make up in a way for that gap in their personal finances.
So, a little tip: Make an extra space in your budget and tip the garbage man, your maid and gardener, with an amount that is fair and reasonable depending on the service they provide and the time they have been working for you.
It´ll come highly appreciated!
